Why Eighties & Nineties Music, Why These Artists & Songs ?

Unsurprisingly, we’re most affected by our favourite songs in our early teens.  Perhaps these are the times we’re most able to completely lose ourselves in the sounds, as we learn to understand what the more complicated, intense emotions truly mean.

We are unreasonably attached to some artists, as they represent us, represent our view of perfection, sing to our tribes, to us alone.

For me and quite a few million others, maximum musical joy was had in the eighties and nineties, with an ‘Alphaville to Yazoo’ of new wave artists emerging after punk’s novelty waned and synths got useful.  Usually without ‘e’.  Most definitely with MTV.

Captured in these artist pages, playlists, song posts, are some sincere opinions on the most exciting and innovative artists of the eighties, those with more than one hit, and at least one amazing album that it’s worth walking back to.  When popularity, longevity and quality are taken into account, there are only around 100 new wave artists that ‘made it’.

Their body of work is as important to me and my tribe now as it was when we first heard it. It helps us to remember and to forget.
